Past Rent Relief Programs

  • January 5, 2021 Updates to LA County COVID-19 Rent Relief

The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors approved changes to the LA County COVID-19 Rent Relief program on January 5, 2021 to allow more flexibility to assist renters through December 31, 2021, who have already applied and qualified for the LA County COVID-19 Rent Relief Program.

How do I know if I qualified for the LA County COVID-19 Rent Relief Program?

To qualify for the LA County COVID-19 Rent Relief Program, you must have applied between August 17 to 31, 2020, and were contacted by program staff in September 2020 that you are eligible to receive assistance.

If I qualified for the LA County COVID-19 Rent Relief Program, will I be able to receive additional assistance to help with my rental payments?

If you qualified for the LA County COVID-19 Rent Relief Program and did not receive the maximum level of assistance (up to $10,000) in 2020, you will be contacted by staff to see if you need additional rental assistance.

What if I qualified for the LA County COVID-19 Rent Relief Program, but my property owner was unwilling to accept the rental payments?

Under the extension, the LACDA now allows rental payments to be sent directly to the tenants if the property owner was unwilling to participate and receive payments directly from the LACDA. The LACDA will ask tenants to provide copies of rent receipts. Tenants receiving direct payment will need to fill out additional documentation in order to receive funds directly.

What if I didn't apply or didn't qualify for the LA County COVID-19 Rent Relief Program, and need help with my rent?

The LACDA is currently developing the 2021 Rent Relief Program. You can sign up to receive text or email notifications from 211LA by clicking here to find out when the application will be available. You can also visit the LA County Help Center for more resources available to renters at lacountyhelpcenter.org.
