  • A Reality Check Teens Can Bank On!

    The Los Angeles County Community Development Foundation (LACDF) awarded $28,000 in Housing Authority Resident (HAR) Scholarships to 28 public housing and Section 8 participants attending a four-year university, community college, or vocational program.

  • Hoop Dreams in Living Color

    The LACDA is pleased to introduce a beautifully refurbished basketball court and modernized teen room to the Harbor Hills Public Housing community. These enhancements were made possible through the combined contributions from 2K Foundations and Xbox in the amount of $75,000!

    The LACDA hosted its annual series of Back to School Jams at the Carmelitos, Harbor Hills, Nueva Maravilla, South County (Scattered Sites), and Sundance Vista public housing developments. For 19 consecutive years, these events have put public housing youth and their families in good spirits for the new school year.

  • National Community Development Week

    NCD Week, celebrated April 2 through April 6, 2018, offers the opportunity to promote the successes and flexibility of CDBG. For more than 40 years, it has provided cities, counties, and states an important source of funds to address their unique affordable housing and community and economic development needs. Through its long history, the CDBG Program has demonstrated time and again its value to local communities through various uses of funding and the results achieved. Without CDBG, many of these services and the ability to revitalize community facilities and businesses, such as this façade improvement program, would be at risk of elimination as funding from other sources are either not available, competitive, or are not stable.

  • Mosaic Gardens at Willowbrook

    Mosaic Gardens at Willowbrook is a 61-unit affordable housing development that provides 31 units for formerly homeless persons that are frequent users of the Los Angeles County Department of Health Services, 29 units for low-income families, plus one on-site property manager’s unit.  There are seven fully accessible units for the mobility impaired and three units for the audio or visually impaired. In addition, 31 units will have universal design features and can be adaptable for persons requiring accessibility modifications.  Mosaic Gardens is awaiting its LEED platinum designation. 

  • AV Imagine Village 1

    Antelope Valley Veterans and Families Imagine Village I (AV Imagine Village I), is a three-story, 75-unit, multifamily affordable housing development that provides family housing for very low- and low-income households in the City of Lancaster.  AV Imagine Village I is the first part of a two-phase development.

    The CDC provided $2.7 million in Affordable Housing Trust Funds for acquisition and permanent financing.  The Housing Authority committed 17 Project-Based vouchers, and 33 Veterans Affairs Supportive Housing vouchers, to ensure the rent remains affordable for the site’s residents.

  • Tiki Apartments Grand Opening

    Los Angeles County Supervisor Mark Ridley-Thomas and CDC officials celebrated the grand opening of Tiki Apartments located in unincorporated Los Angeles (Huntington Park area). Tiki Apartments provides 35 units of affordable housing for homeless persons that are frequent users of the Los Angeles County Department of Health Services, and one property manager’s unit. The development contains a stand-alone community room that includes a staff office, property manager’s office, and recreational space, as well as a community kitchen and multi-purpose room.  Hear about the impact Tiki Apartments has had on its new tenants in the video below.

  • Tiki Apartments Groundbreaking

    The CDC provided $500,000 in Homeless Service Center Funds, provided by Los Angeles County Second District Supervisor Mark Ridley-Thomas, for construction and permanent financing. Developers will rehabilitate an existing apartment building and a vacant motel to provide 35 units of affordable housing for homeless persons that are frequent users of the Los Angeles County Department of Health Services, as well as one onsite property manager’s unit. 

  • Cedar Springs

    Cedar Springs
    Cedar Springs Apartments is a 36-unit affordable housing development in the City of La Verne, and home to Laura Lomeli, a formerly homeless Transition Age Youth (TAY). The CDC provided HOME funds and Homeless Bonus funds for 25 TAY units at the site. The Housing Authority provided project-based vouchers to ensure Cedar Springs remains affordable for its residents. The development provides a variety of supportive services including case management, service coordinator and substance abuse counseling. See how this development has impacted Ms. Lomeli's life.

  • El Monte Veterans Village

    El Monte Veterans Village, a 40-unit comprehensive affordable housing development is the first permanent supportive community for homeless veterans in the San Gabriel Valley.  This $12 million landmark development paves the way for future efforts to provide affordable, service enriched, supportive housing for homeless veterans in the Los Angeles area. 

  • Mosaic Gardens

    Mosaic Gardens reused an existing, vacant 55-unit motel and adapted it to provide 24 units of housing for low-income individuals eligible for assistance from the Mental Health Services Act, and very low-income families. The CDC provided $800,000 in First District Homeless Service Center Funds toward the development.

  • Housing Resource Center

    The Los Angeles County Housing Resource Center was created to help people list and find affordable, special-needs, accessible, and emergency housing within the County of Los Angeles.  Launched in April 2007, the service is managed by the CDC, and fosters collaboration and information sharing among several agencies, organizations, and professional associations representing all jurisdictions within the County. 

  • Coteau III

    Completed in December 2012, and occupied in 2013, Coteau III is the CDC's first newly constructed housing project for foster youth.  The CDC partnered with United Friends of the Children’s (UFC) to provide housing and teach independent living skills to these youth in a safe and well-designed living environment.

  • Avalon Apartments

    The CDC provided $3 million in Federal HOME funds for construction and permanent financing of Avalon Apartments, a 1.72-acre development located in the Willowbrook area of unincorporated Los Angeles County.  Avalon Apartments provides housing for adults and families whose head of households are homeless with mental illness or low-income.

  • Terracina Apartments

    Terracina Apartments offers 72 housing units reserved for Transitional Age Youth who are aging out of the foster care system.  The CDC supported the project with $5.7 million of HOME Investment Partnerships Program funds for acquisition and construction.  Additionally, the Housing Authority of the County of Los Angeles is providing rental assistance to the units reserved for Transitional Age Youth.  

  • Star Apartments

    Star Apartments, a 102-unit affordable housing development, provides supportive housing for homeless individuals, people living with mental illness, HIV/AIDS, substance abuse, or co-occurring disorders. The CDC provided $2 million for construction and permanent financing, in addition to a grant of $400,000 of Homeless Service Center funds for construction costs.

  • Hacienda Heights Community Center

    The CDC oversaw construction of the Hacienda Heights Community Center.  The $21 million, 21,000 square-foot center is located at 1234 Valencia Avenue, the former site of the Hacienda La Puente Unified School District’s Hillgrove Elementary School.

  • San Angelo Park Community Center

    The CDC oversaw the construction of the $4 million Community Center designed to meet the needs of programming and services currently offered at San Angelo Park, such as a tiny tot program for children ages 2 to 5, after school club, ballet and dance classes, as well as cheerleading.

  • South Los Angeles Recuperative Center

    South Los Angeles Recuperative Care Center, located in the unincorporated area of East Rancho Dominguez, is a 38-bed Center that provides an environment for homeless patients to recover after major surgery, following discharge from County hospitals. 

  • Liberty Plaza

    Liberty Plaza is a 20,600 square-foot, one-story, LEED)Silver certified community center.  Liberty Community Plaza will also house County offices and rooms reserved for Military Veterans’ programs, all of which will be managed by Helpline Youth Counseling, the non-profit organization that will occupy and operate the facility.  

  • YWCA Receives County CDBG Funds

    Los Angeles County Supervisor Hilda L. Solis visited two sites operated by the YWCA of Greater Los Angeles.  These sites receive federal Community Development Block Grant funds, from the CDC, for the operation of three successful programs that serve low- and moderate-income residents.  

  • The Metro at Compton Senior Apartments

    Metro at Compton provides 75 units of affordable housing reserved for low- and very-low income seniors aged 55 years and older. The project converted a formerly vacant lot into a transit oriented development located adjacent to the Compton Metro Blue Line light rail and bus stations. The CDC provided over $2.5 million in construction and permanent financing to support the development of the project.

  • Kaufmann Apartments at Step Up on Colorado

    Kaufmann Apartments at Step Up on Colorado is a new affordable housing development that provides 32 units of supportive housing to frequent users of the County’s health or mental health services and homeless individuals with mental illness.  The CDC provided $1.1 million for construction and permanent financing, including $100,000 for increased energy efficiency measures.

  • Path Villas at Del Rey

    The CDC celebrated the grand opening of Path Villas at Del Rey, a new affordable housing development providing 22 units of permanent supportive housing for homeless persons with a mental illness. The CDC provided $950,000 of funding for the acquisition and development of the site.  

  • CRC Annex Groundbreaking

    The CDC held a groundbreaking for the future 3,500 square-foot Community Resource Center annex. The CDC is overseeing the development of the $4.2 million dollar project, funded by the office of Fourth District Supervisor Don Knabe.
